VR Review: Avatar: The Game with VorpX
John Camerons AVATAR was agreat movie, without any doubt. Viewers were pleased with incredible sights and colours that definately no other film had provided before. Gamers were even more pleased when AVATAR: The game came out. Advanced 3D settings opened gamers to use 3D-Glasses in different ways, 3D-Vision was probably the best choice, but people were able to play Avatar even on their 50 inch 3D TV. Ive had the game quite for a while in my collection and a few weeks ago i decided to test in in VR with VorpX. It took a while and some tweaks needed to be done, but finally i managed to get the game work in Geometry Mode. The game is not officially supported yet and things like positional headtracking and camera hight were missing but at least i had a good 3D with normal headtracking working. - Some people are talking about when would an Avatar Game for VR be comming out, i say thats not even nessecary. Knowing that there is a way with a VR driver to convert the game into VR was good enough for me.
The game ran in a relatively high resolution, though if you want play it with vorpX you must follow the instructions of the Avatar Cloud Profile, (has to do with the widescreen bug of the game) otherwise you will not get the game to work in VR properly.
The gaming experience itself was delicious, no studder, only the little things you have to deal with when using todays VR Glasses like unsharp text borders, but fortunately VorpX offers some image tuning so you can optimize that a little.
The most i enjoyed were the nightly colours in the forest and the crazy colours of the plants.I even walked around only to explore the djungle and the vegetation without following the story at all. In my eyes VR games, (or games converted into VR) offer a completely different experience then a game on a flat screen, even 3D-Vision can not beat that. Avatar is a relatively short game, but the VR experience is insane. RJkole
