How do I download user profiles?

That’s fairly simple. User profiles listed in this forum (and more) can be downloaded on the ‘Cloud Profiles’ page of the vorpX config app. Simply create an account, type the game name into the search box, select a profile from your search result and hit the ‘Import Profile’ button.

How can I create my own user profiles?

To create a basic user profile all you have to do is copying an existing profile on the ‘Local Profiles’ page of the vorpX config app and assign your game’s main .exe to the copied profile.

The tricky part is finding a profile that will work in the best possible way with the game you want to try. For the best chance of success find out what graphics engine your game is based on and then use a matching profile as your starting point. Wikipedia pages for games often contain this information in the fact box, alternatively a simple web search like for example ‘skyrim 3d engine’ may help.

Below are some promising base profiles for common game engines. There never is a guarantee that a copied profile works as expected, but using a base profile based on the same engine dramatically increases your chances.

Unreal Engine 3 (DX9):		Unreal Engine 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect 3 (cinema)
Unreal Engine 3 (DX11):		Bioshock Infinite, Bioshock Remastered, Batman: Arkham Knight (immersive screen)
Unreal Engine 4 (DX11):		Conarium, The Turing Test, Get Even, Vampyr (immersive screen)
Unity Engine 5 (DX11):		Unity 5 Base Profile, Firewatch, Ori and the Blind Forest (cinema)

How can I improve my user profiles?

This section only applies to Geometry 3D profiles.

Once you created a basic Geometry 3D profile using the steps above you may want to improve it by defining HUD/menu shaders for a scalable VR HUD or by disabling effects that don’t work well in stereo.

First you need to unlock advanced authoring options by checking both the ‘Expert Settings’ and the ‘G3D Shader Authoring’ checkboxes on the ‘General’ page of the vorpX config app.

Hint: Optionally select ‘Generic VR headset (desktop mode)’ as headset type to work on your monitor, which can be more convenient than doing everything in VR.

Afterwards load up the game with your newly created profile and hit CTRL+END ingame to open the shader authoring page. Don’t let this page intimidate you, it’s easy to understand.

The topmost option lets you select whether you want to work with vertex, pixel or (DX11 only) compute shaders. Directly below you choose how to visualize shaders while flipping through them. Don’t worry if you don’t know in detail what shaders are, for our purpose you can simply imagine them as a way to individually select objects or effects.

In the ‘Add Shaders’ group you can flip through all currently loaded shaders of the type you selected above. Use this to find shaders that you want to treat in some special way. When you found a shader (e.g. a part of the HUD or some misaligned effect), hit the ‘Add To Active’ button.

Once you did that the newly added shader is automatically selected in the ‘Edit Shaders’ group. With the ‘Modifier’ option you can now choose how vorpX should treat the shader.
