- SteamVR crashing after fresh Windows 10 install
It seems against many rumours Windows 10 doenst install DirectX on default or improperly. If you install SteamVR for the first time RIGHT after a fresh Win10 install, you need to install DirektX. I choosed the Microsft Webinstaller. (Google) (Test: Starting SteamVR from the Steam Client results in a crash without notice. Running (SteamVR ../bin/64/ folder) Vrmonitor.exe manually shows a D3D10 error)
- Reboot after DX install
SteamVR Headset not found after fresh Windows 10 install (error 108)
Very likely your bluetooth drivers are not properley installed, faulty or not recognized by Windows10/SteamVR OR SteamVR can not properly recognize hardware because of improperly working mainboard drivers (even Windows has recognized the HMD and installed camera, audio etc.) In ym case, at the same time the SteamVR Menu and the Bluetooth settings were not available. I was not even able to install/update a driver nor to select the SteamVR bluetooth settings.
My solution was to install the Bluetooth drivers manually. They are located in steamVR/tools/../lighthouse/bin.
-Install the driver that is marked with W10, then reboot.
( Note: Steam and Windows10 did recognize the HMD, but not SteamVR, resulting in a hang somewhere beetween a proper start and displaying the menu.)
If this manual driver install didndt help First try a different USB port ! also install the latest drivers for your mainboard and reboot your PC.This is what finally made steamVR showing its menues and recognize my HMD (vive pro)
Note:If SteamVR has worked on your current setup before the steps above may not help. In this case FIRST try the tips that you find all across google like choosing a different USB Port, re-installing bluetooth drivers, re-connect Headset, unpower Headset , remove drivers in the SteamVR developer menu which is luckily still available while the main menu is invisible, reboot etc.
Never assume Win10 installs drivers properly on default !
Good Luck
